Arriving in New Zealand
Someone from the international department will pick you up from the airport
Your first day at school will be an orientation program where you will learn about the College and life in New Zealand. Part of the orientation program will be learning to take the local bus and train to Wellington, as well as seeing where the mall, shops, banks etc are.
You will be allocated a buddy from your year level. Your buddy will show you around the school, meet you at interval and lunch and introduce you to their friends. We recommend that you are with your buddy for at least the first three weeks of your time at Paraparaumu College until you meet other people.
The New Zealand academic year runs from the end of January to mid-December. It is divided into four terms of around ten weeks each. International students are accepted anytime through the year. Between each term there is a two week holiday, which is a good time for international students to travel around New Zealand with an approved student tour company. Classes at Paraparaumu College are from Monday to Friday from 8.50am – 3.15pm. Students may participate in sports and other extra- curricular activities at lunchtime, after school or at the weekends.
Medical and Travel Insurance is compulsory for the duration of the student’s course. It can be arranged through the school with Unicare Travel Insurance.
