Four records fall at huge Wellington Junior Cycling Championships
These excerpts are from the PNP website:
Thirty-five riders took part in the 2016 Wellington Junior Track Championships, with many travelling from as far afield as Levin, Wanganui and Palmerston North. Despite a brisk southerly, four records fell, Grace Saywell taking three of them in the under 17 girls.
Grace Saywell was the star of the girls under 17s, winning all five races and setting Wellington records in the 200m Flying Start (13.84sec), the 2000m Pursuit (2min 57sec) and the 500m TT (42.19sec). Izy Alloway rode to a commendable second in the omnium, with Bridget Olphert third. The under 17 boys was won by Max Wickens ahead of Callum Hancock and Dylan Reid.
Well done to all riders who took part, and thanks to the officials and volunteers for putting the event together. The event has effectively doubled in size since the first running in 2014 – a remarkable achievement.
Great cycling Grace a wonderful start to the year.
